World Series Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51 million viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match series recorded 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American average reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 different languages.
