Two Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault resulted in the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 car park.

An additional two individuals have been arrested in connection with a robbery at Heathrow Airport where over twenty individuals were injured by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, as stated by police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected robbery and assault and a woman, 23 was detained for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.

These detentions follow an investigation into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the attack, two women were robbed of their luggage upon exiting a car park lift.

A three-year-old girl was among the those hurt during the incident. Five people went to hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and assault near the location. He has since been released pending further inquiries while inquiries continue.

Police were called at about 08:10 GMT following reports of a number of individuals hurt by a noxious substance thought to be pepper spray.

The assault - an event that authorities stated was isolated and not considered terrorism - caused delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility briefly.
